My new blog. Question: Can I possibly keep this going? Answer: If the entries are brief enough, I think I have a shot. Toward that end I am determined to keep each post down to 350 words or less.

Ready, kids? Everybody got their "buddy"? If you lose your buddy, look for a counselor. Here we go...

Dateline, Short Hills, NJ. The Hilton Hotel. 12:45 AM. My plans: Return to Crichton's EATERS OF THE DEAD (a more "authentic" retelling of the BEOWOLF legend; wonderful so far), talk to my wife, read a bit more, then crash.

Roseanne Barr also has a blog... where she wrote this week urging Bruce Springsteen to denounce Israel at the Superbowl half-time show and for Barack Obama to, quote, "stop supporting the Israeli war machine." Dear God...

The frightening truth is that Roseanne, while an idiot, is speaking now for most of the world. When Israel left Gaza in 2005, nobody cared. When Israel removed 9000 Jewish settlers by force from the region, nobody cared. When the Hamas rockets started raining down on Israel the same day Israel left, nobody cared.

Nobody cared until Israel struck back. They never do.

Which raises the question of how many of the countries denouncing Israel for its "excessive" use of force in that region would have stood by doing nothing if it was their cities being pounded each day by rocket fire?

The answer, conservatively, is none.

Jimmy Carter went on CHARLIE ROSE last week defending Hamas and claiming it broke its cease-fire agreement with Israel only in order to, quote, "draw attention to the Palestinian cause."

Then on Friday he told Michael Medved that the part of the Hamas charter calling for the complete annihilation of the Jewish state was just, quote, "ancient history."

Medved replied that, if that were true, Hamas surely would have modifed its charter by now, right? But it hasn't modified its charter.

...Obviously just a clerical oversight.
